Pharmacy Network - Retail Network

   Minimize

In 2011, 21% of respondents had a limited pharmacy network as shown in Table 4 while 13% did not know if they offered it. Limited networks were more common among employers with 20,000 or more lives (37% versus 19% among employers under 2,000 lives; p<.05). Sixty percent of respondents allowed retail pharmacies to dispense maintenance supplies (typically 90-days) of medications (i.e., a retail 90 benefit) while 11% did not know if retail 90 was offered as a benefit. For respondents offering retail 90, 54% allowed maintenance dispensing at any network retail pharmacy while 43% limited maintenance dispensing to select retail pharmacies (i.e., a limited or selected network). Among those with a limited retail 90 network, 26% of respondents required maintenance prescriptions to be filled either through 90-day retail or mail and 13% were not sure if it was a requirement.
