The percent of respondents with no use of alternative financial incentive was 43% in 2011 (Figure 13). The most common strategy was reduced copays which was used by 36% of respondents. Use of incentives to participate in health risk assessments, a new question in 2011, was reported by 21% of respondents. The percent of employers incentivizing patients for actual improvements in behavior, or even outcomes, remains small at only 8%. Employers with 20,000 or more lives were more likely to reduce copays for specific health conditions (32% versus 8% of employers under 2,000 lives; p<.05) and more likely to reduce copays for participation in care management programs (22% versus 8% of employers under 2,000 lives; p<.05).
